Weekend Accomplishments

Porch view this morning
Yesterday was a day for getting things done!  I mowed the yard, edged around the fence, flower beds and moved and replanted about a dozen amaryllis plants.  The weather held out, we didn't get the expected rain and the summer heat was manageable.

Later on, I prepped and primed the wall around the tub in the master bath.  After that, I was done for Saturday. A quick jump in the pool to cool off and the pool was a very cool 68 degrees!

After dinner, I made a quick trip to Lowes to pick up a bag of Black Cow manure to enhance a bed I am going to replant.  I also picked up a pot of caladiums marked down from $9 to $3.  Then, before I headed home, I passed by Target to pick up kitty litter and coffee.

Today, I skipped church and spent the morning cleaning out the refrigerator!  That has not happened in a long time lol.  When my husband got home from church, we both cleaned out our closets and ended up with two large trash bags of clothes we do not wear and don't fit that we are donating to his pastor friend at work.  He collects clothes and sends them to Haiti.

That was it for the weekend endeavors. There are still more things to get done, but isn't that the way it goes?

A few things I need to do next week, schedule my car for an oil change, call about my cpap results, finish painting the master bathroom and clean out and organize the garage.

Sleep Deprived

Me, when I don't use my CPAP machine.
The last two nights, I was doing an in home sleep study to evaluate my current sleep apnea. I have been soooo tired because I was not able to use my CPAP machine, even after a nap today using theCPAP.  Tonight I will be able to use my machine and I know I will feel better tomorrow.
I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and had been using a CPAP machine since 2008.  It was my snoring that led to the initial sleep study.  I was tired back then, but I thought it was because I was anemic.  Well, my tiredness was probably due to both conditions.  A CPAP and a partial hysterectomy fixed both of those conditions.

My daughter and her family are living with us while their home sold.  Now they are moving into an RV and living in our backyard ( I don't know for how long, they may go to her mother in-laws).  The RV is a big one, 38 feet with three slide outs.  But when you start putting your stuff, your husband's stuff and your two kid's stuff in there, the spaciousness quickly disappears.

I hope it is a phase that passes quickly, but who's to say?  Living in an RV is not for me, I guess that is all I can say about it.  Well, I could say more... but we will see what happens.

Not much went on this weekend, a trip to Target for a cross of grocery items and household necessities, the kiddos went swimming on Saturday and Sunday was church and Sunday school with the family.  After lunch, my husband and I went to check out new beds.  Ours is shot, and it is time to get a new mattress set.  We are still looking and deciding.

I did go to Lowe's yesterday to check out the markdown racks in the garden center.  They just put African Violets on markdown for a buck each.  I picked up two for a planter I have on the front porch.  I also picked up a couple of wire hangers for two orchid plants I have and haven't killed yet.

I did work on adding more listings to my eBay store the last few days.  I posted my numbers from last week HERE

More Motivated Today

Oh man, yesterday I went totally off the low carb wagon.  After I ate the birthday cake, I took an hour nap. When my husband got home we went out to eat pizza and beer, followed by fresh donuts! Go big or not at all, I guess!
Yeah, so not much was accomplished yesterday... except indulgence.

Today was better when it came to getting things accomplished.  The yard needed mowing and even with the heat index of 105 degrees, I was able to get it done in little over an hour.  We bought a new "used" lawn tractor and it is darn quick compared to our old one.

I prefer to mow and enjoy it immensely no matter what the weather.  It gives me time to myself to think and ponder without interruption. Well, at least until I run out of gas.  I was almost done with the backyard and I ran out!  I had to lug the gas can across the backyard, fill up the mower and then I could finish up the last little bit of lawn.

After some cool down time, there was laundry to do, and after two loads I was all caught up. I vacuumed and mopped the floor, (we have tile throughout the house) and after that, I was done.  Except for dinner, which was easy, chili dogs and tater tots.

I have found a color I like and will most likely use for the master bathroom. I may start on that tomorrow with a bit of priming first.  I was thinking about using a stencil pattern on one wall as an accent. It may make it too busy, but if we hate it we can always paint it solid.  We will see.

How was your day?  Did things get done?

Trying To Get Motivated

Candy Cane Crepe Mytrle in front yard.  I love the dark pink and
whisps of white on the flowers.
Lordy, I have so much to do today, but just can't get started.  I very much want to change the paintcolor in my bathroom.  The color is the original color that was here when we moved in 8 years ago.  All of the other rooms in the house have been painted and updated.  All, except for our master bathroom.

The color is bright green, which I can live with and have lived with.  But now, I really, really want to change it.  Probably one of the reasons I have not updated it is that I thought, or we thought that we would have it professionally remodeled which as you know is not cheap.

That idea will be put on the back burner for now, we are paying down a chunk of debt and I would like to get that under control before we put out any more renovation money.  Those are my plans, my husband would spend the money now to renovate the bathroom without hesitation.  But, he does not do the bills, so there's that.

Other projects that  I need to tend to get control of my eBay shipping area in the garage and my listing area in the bedroom.  When running an eBay business, the areas where you list and pack all look very cluttered in a matter of minutes after getting started. Just something we have to live with for now.  I posted my numbers from last week on eBay, you can see them here

I have been doing well with my exercise and eating better.  I have worked out three times since Friday with my daughter.  She sets up exercise stations in our driveway, to include the heavy ropes, bands, kettlebells and whatever else she decides we need to do.  It is intense, but I really enjoy it.

My eating is low-carb and drinking more water and when I eat low carb I feel much better.  But.... there are those rare days that I really, really want something sweet.  Today is that day.  Leftover cake from my son-in-law's birthday, and boy was it good.  Tomorrow is another day, and the routine if better eating will be back on track again.

Best get moving, start a list for today and get something accomplished.  It is endless, but that is okay.  I would be bored otherwise.

How is your day going?  Are you getting stuff done?

The Week So Far

I am still enjoying my summer break so much, I love having the time to putter around the house and relax.  The perks of working a school schedule job. I still have a list of things to do before school starts and am slowly accomplishing them.

The firepit that I turned into a planter definitely needs attention!

Tuesday:  Morning walk with Cricket for a mile followed by some weeding one flower bed. Target was having a Summer markdown sale on their patio items.  We went yesterday and they were pretty well picked over.  I picked up a few groceries and spent $24.00.

Dinner for the family was spaghetti and seasoned bread.  I ate spicy sausage with sauteed shredded cabbage, keeping it keto.

Wednesday:  Morning walk with Cricket for 1.7 miles before the heat of the day kicked in.  I met a coworker for coffee this morning.  We both work at the same elementary school and work together in the same department, which is even better!   During our summer break, we like to get together every couple of weeks or so and chat over a cup of coffee.

After coffee, we went to Hobby Lobby to check out the marked down Spring and Summer items.  75% off on most items in the category was enticing and I did leave with a few small items, bubbles for the grandkids. I spent $2.50.  There were other things in my cart, but I did not end up purchasing them.
My daughter and her husband ran a few errands in the afternoon and I watched the kiddos in the pool for about an hour.  After that, there was dinner, and I listed a few things on eBay.

Thursday:  Bloodwork early this morning for a dr appt on Monday.  I was at the lab by 7:30 and home by 8:15.  Good service and the stick was painless.  I am anxious to see what the results are, hoping that they are still in the normal range.  Did some housework, vacuuming followed by a light mopping.  There was a couple of hours of listing and packing items for eBay, almost at 600 listings, shy by about 10.  Maybe that will be accomplished by this evening. Now to figure out what's for dinner.

Dinner was a salad and Cricket and I  did get our walk in.

What We Spent Last Week on Groceries and Eating Out

If you are ever in Fort Meyers, you must try this place!
We only ate out twice last week, and that was on our overnight trip to Fort Myers to see the winter homes of Edison and Ford.  We found a place called the Shrimp Shack online and we based our decision to try it out on the online reviews.

I think it was one of the best dinners we have had out in a long time! I had stuffed shrimp with cheesy grits, cole slaw and hush puppies. My husband had fish and chips and green beans.

For dessert, I had German Chocolate Cake that was stuffed with cream cheese (OMG) and my husband had a carrot cake with bananas in it.  Both were to die for.

We also had two draft beers, they were $1 each during Happy Hour. The total cost of the dinner with tip was $64.00.

The road less traveled

On the way home, I-75 was a nightmare so we go off the main highway, gassed up at WaWa    ( ate lunch $20) and found a couple of state roads to make our way home.

It added more time, but at least we were moving!! And the scenery was so much prettier.  There were a couple of afternoon storms to dodge, be we managed just fine.

Our grocery shopping is at $97.00 for the first week of July which included the purchase of a birthday cake for $19.99.  It doesn't matter who's birthday it is, my husband INSISTS on a Publix cake to celebrate and enjoy.

We took a spur of the moment day trip to south Florida and checked out the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.  They offered a tour of the grounds which we purchased an enjoyed.  They also had a museum and Edison's lab that you could go through and cool off from the heat.

These are just a few of the pictures we took while on the tour.  When we were looking at the museum and its pictures of the Edisons and Fords on excursions to the Everglades, they were dressed to the nines.

The photos were black and white, but you could tell that the clothes were heavy and layered, collars buttoned up and coats.

I guess what is odder, is that they had a photographer.  But, since they were famous for their many achievements maybe that is how they traveled, with a photographer to document the event and them.

All in all, it was a good trip we were glad we were able to get away.

Edison's dining room

Yesterday, we went to church and afterward we did yard work.  All this rain really keeps the grass green, but it sure grows fast. Yard work is something I enjoy doing, but with this heat, I definitely have to pace myself and not get overheated.

Goodness, it will be one month tomorrow and I will be back to work again.  Summer is just flying by!!  I still have lots to do, which include getting new work shoes, and work slacks.

Edison's kitchen

There is still a closet or two that I need to go through and of course there is eBay.  I am working on building up my eBay listings to 700 by the time school starts.  Right now I am at 570ish.

Once I get I get in the groove and can avoid interruptions, the process goes pretty smoothly.  Typically, I can list about 10-15 items a day in between doing other chores or answering grandkiddos questions.

If you would like to read more on what I sold last week, you can check it out HERE

The Week So Far

Monday:   After morning coffee, I showered, got dressed and headed to Orlando to visit one of my favorite thrift stores.  I spent $32 dollars on items to list in my eBay store. Tolls and mileage are a deduction.  I managed to list 10 items this evening, worked out with my daughter and walked a mile with the dog before dark.   Dinner was Chili Dogs and my son in law bought and prepared dinner and the grandkids cleaned the kitchen.

Tuesday:  Morning coffee on the porch was followed by finishing up spraying painting a wrought iron table for the front porch.  It was my birthday yesterday, and I celebrated it all day. My husband had flowers sent to the house, I went to lunch with an old friend from the animal shelter and she gave me flowers too! I heard from both my boys, and my daughter and her family gave me a Roomba.  We plugged it in today and tried it out.  Pretty cool little gadget! My son in law made dinner (tacos) and we finished up with cake from Publix.  All in all, it was a great day.

Wednesday:   Today was a  regular day around the house.  More spray painting of different tables, a trip to Target for a few groceries, listed 10 items on eBay and fixed dinner, chicken fettuccine and broccoli.

I remembered to use my Red Card for my 5% discount, every little bit helps.

I was going to mow the yard today, but the temps were going to be 115 degrees with the heat index.

The grass will just have to grow and wait until this heat wave is over.  Even with the almost daily rain showers, there is no relief from the heat.  The AC has been running non-stop and the power bill reflects that.

After my trip to Target, I made hard boiled eggs in my rice steamer, for me, this is the best and easiest way to make boiled eggs. After I put them in the ice bath, I dry them off, leave the shell on and keep them in a bowl in the fridge.  When I pack them for lunch, I then peel what I need.

My husband is off the rest of the week, he is going to work on completing the installation of our whole house generator. The generator is wired up to the house, and the gas line has been installed from the road ( where the main line is) so he will have to connect the generator to the gas meter. It will be nice to have that project completed.  Hurricane season started June 1 but typically the storms are not active here until about August. Hopefully, the season will be uneventful for everyone.
